With its flexibility, low cost, speed, and mobility, ultrasound is establishing itself as a primary screening tool in the emergency department (ED). The now detailed imaging capability of ultrasound allows for quick diagnosis during triage and helps ED staff make critical life-saving decisions, such as the need for surgery or further imaging techniques. By mixing obstetrical, abdomen, vascular, musculoskeletal, and other scanning disciplines, ultrasound can be a key player when every second counts.
