Basic Surgical skills workshop:
This one-day work shop is designed to address a lack of structured basic surgical skills training courses for medical students intending to follow a career in surgery. It aims to teach, assess and certify the ability of trainees to use safe and sound basic surgical techniques that are common to all forms of surgery. Participants are first introduced to the principles underpinning various surgical techniques and then to practice these techniques in small group workstations with individual supervision of qualified surgeons.
Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:
Demonstrate correct handling and use of surgical instruments
Tie a variety of reliable knots
Demonstrate different suturing techniques
